Building production systems inside a world-class manufacturing environment
I worked with the only Quality Management team in the world for Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. I developed completely bespoke, plant-wide software solutions, supporting manufacturing operations and business processes. Working closely with engineers and stakeholders, I delivered applications and automation tools used daily across the business, earned the highest performance rating (Outstanding Plus), and gained experience across the full product lifecycle - from requirements and development to deployment and continuous improvement.
At 20 years old, I left home for the first time and moved over 300 miles away to begin my first full-time job. Joining Rolls-Royce Motor Cars meant entering a highly complex manufacturing environment where software had to provide genuine value to real users. Problems weren't theoretical, and solutions had to be robust, maintainable and trusted by the people relying on them every day. Over the course of the year I worked with stakeholders from manufacturing, engineering and operations to understand problems, gather requirements and turn ideas into practical solutions. Alongside adapting to full-time professional life, I maintained consistent gym training and lost over 20 kg during the placement year.
I stand by the belief that the best software is built by understanding the people who use it. I spent time on the factory floor, shadowing operators and engineers, to understand their workflows and pain points. I presented my analyses and solutions to C-Suite executives, and worked with cross-functional teams to implement changes that measurably improved efficiency and quality across the business.
Built applications, automation tools and reporting solutions from the ground up, including requirements gathering, design, development, testing and deployment. I worked closely with stakeholders to ensure solutions met their needs and were user-friendly.
Worked directly with users and stakeholders to understand requirements and translate operational needs into scalable digital solutions. I managed the product lifecycle, prioritising features and improvements based on user feedback and the impact on production.

Co-designed and developed a production platform used by over 100 concurrent users daily, and responsible for tracking more than 2,100 manufacturing tools. The system replaced inefficient manual processes and delivered high five-figure annual savings while providing improved visibility and traceability across operations.
